What is the original difference seperating the Shi'a and Sunnis?
the difference my friend is when the prophet mohammad recommended his son in law (Imam Ali) a.s to be his successor, some people decided "after the prophet's departure" to make it a consultation among themselves and chose Abu Bakr instead..
**therefore, half of the people (shia nowadays) insisted on following what the prophet has recommended (the son in law)
**while the other half (sunna nowadays) decided to follow Abu Bakr..
and the reasons for this difference is because..
**the first half (shia) believe that the prophet is infallible, therefore his orders (or recommendations) must have been followed literally..
**the other half (sunna) believe that the prophet is not infallible, therefore not "all" of his orders are to be followed, because he's a normal human being and was bound to make a mistake from time to time..
**the (shia) follow the sayings of the prophet that are passed to them through his holy household, and do not regard Bukhari and Aisha as references to get back to..
**the (sunna) follow the sayings of the prophet that are passed to them through his companions, bukhari and his wife Aisha

NOTE::
-the hadeeth of ghadeer DOES exist in all the sunni rescources, but they dont accept it because they "decided" its weak..
and anyhows, we dont follow the sunna's hadiths.. we follow the hadiths that are passed to us through the prophet's holy family..
-my brother, ask any of ur sheikhs, or go through ur websites and get ur answer about what they think about the prophet's infallibility!! and he will reply to you about this matter
"he will also give u examples about Moses and other prophets being not infallible :S..!!"
we WISH if you believed the prophet was infallible non of this would have happened..
- its a fact that we will call u liars, and you will call us liars..
so let every part simply stick to their own side of the story and stop commenting on the other's reply.. because we'll get nowhere..
